Dry and wet cupping
What is cupping?
Cupping is an alternative treatment first used in 3300 BC. This is done by placing cups on the skin to create suction, which helps in treating several health conditions for overall healing.
Cups placed on the skin create suction, pulling the skin up to encourage blood flow. There are two methods used to create suction. First, the therapist will heat the cups from the inside and place them on the skin – a traditional technique that has been used for thousands of years. The next step uses a rubber suction squeezer, which is a more modern procedure that does not involve heat.
As suction occurs, blood circulation in the treated areas is enhanced. In fact, muscle tension will decrease, blood flow will improve, cells are repaired quickly, and connective tissues and blood vessels are formed again.
Dry cupping
There are two main types of cupping or cupping therapy: dry cupping and wet cupping. People are more familiar with dry cupping, which only involves suction. It is effective in relieving muscle tension, regulating blood flow, and stimulating cell repair.
Wet cupping
This version of cupping consists of two things: suction and medical bleeding control. Wet cupping is usually performed after dry cupping. In this procedure, the therapist makes superficial cuts in the skin before placing cups on the pierced areas. The suction from the cups will draw stagnant blood and stale fluids from the body. This procedure helps treat muscle soreness and improve mobility.
Benefits of cupping
Cupping to treat acne and eczema
Heat and stagnation, which are two causes of acne and other skin conditions, can be removed with wet cupping. This treatment has a great deal of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can alleviate the symptoms of acne and other skin conditions.
Cupping for arthritis
Pain caused by arthritis can be relieved through wet cupping. The treatment can clean the blood, strengthen the immune system, and reduce swelling and inflammation.
Cupping for high blood pressure
Enlarged blood cells in arteries and veins can be reversed with the help of wet cupping. It restores normal blood pressure by allowing thinner blood to circulate through the body.
Cupping for back pain
Reduces muscle stiffness through the therapeutic effects of wet cupping. Treatment reduces the intensity of pain and improves posture.
Cupping for muscle and joint pain
Poor circulation and muscle stiffness are two major causes of chronic muscle and joint pain. If left unchecked, a patient’s posture can be affected, not to mention toxins accumulating. Detoxifying cupping can improve the affected area by drawing out stagnant fluid.
Cupping for digestive problems
Gastric and pancreatic juices can be regulated through cupping. It removes colon obstruction and improves digestion. Removing colon blockages and improving digestion can treat abdominal problems.
