What’s Botox?

Botox injections improve appearance by relaxing muscles that cause wrinkles. These injections also treat medical conditions, including migraines, hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder and eye problems. To maintain results, treatments should be repeated every three to six months.

What does it treat?

Botox shots block certain chemical signals from nerves that cause muscles to contract. The most common use of these injections is to relax the facial muscles that cause frown lines and other facial wrinkles.

Botox injections also are used to ease symptoms of some health conditions. It’s not a cure. Examples of medical conditions that might be treated with Botox injections include:

    • Neck spasms. In this painful condition, the neck muscles contract in an uncontrolled way. This causes the head to twist or turn into an uncomfortable position. The condition also is called cervical dystonia.
    • Lazy eye. The most common cause of lazy eye is an imbalance in the muscles used for moving the eye. Lazy eye also is called crossed eyes or misaligned eyes.
    • Sweating. Botox might be used for a condition in which people sweat a lot even when they’re not hot or working up a sweat. It’s called excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis.
    • Migraine. Botox injections may help reduce how often you get a migraine. This treatment is used mainly for people who have headaches 15 or more days a month. When you get serious headaches that often, the condition is called chronic migraine. Treatment is needed about every three months to retain the benefit.

The aesthetic specialists at ElGamal Clinic employ Botox injections to treat:

    • Crow’s feet
    • Frown lines
    • Forehead lines
    • Fine Lines In & Around the Eyes
    • Nasolabial Folds
    • Gummy Smile
    • Bruxism
    • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

      How do Botox work

Botox is a fluid that is injected and includes botulinum toxin. It produces transient paralysis, which weakens the face muscles responsible for wrinkles and fine lines. The skin can become smooth and wrinkles appear less noticeable by blocking muscle contractions in particular places.
Our cosmetic doctors at ElGamal Clinic use Botox therapy to treat bruxism, or excessive teeth grinding, and to reduce jaw size. It improves teeth grinding by weakening the corner portion of the muscle when injected at the angle of your jaw. Refinement and contouring of the patient’s side profile and cheekbones in relation to the face is an additional benefit of this operation.

Results & longevity:

Botox injections usually begin working 1 to 3 days after treatment, though it can take a week or more to see full results. Not all people have visible results or relief from symptoms.

Depending on the problem being treated, the effect may last 3 to 4 months. To maintain the effect, you’ll likely need regular follow-up injections spaced at least three months apart.

Treatment Time:

The duration of your Botox session will be determined by several factors, including the size of the treatment area and the number of areas treated. The procedure itself usually takes around 15 minutes.

Does it hurt:

Botox is a minimally invasive procedure, making it a comfortable treatment option for clients due to the use of thin needles. Occasionally, there may be a sensation of slight discomfort, although it is typically rather minimal. Often, numbing cream is applied to the area where the injection will be given before the treatment begins, usually 15-30 minutes in advance, in order to prevent any pain.

Downtime:

One of the most pleasing aspects of Botox is that there is no downtime; however, this varies from patient to patient. Patients may suffer mild redness and/or swelling, but this should subside within a few hours.

To allow the product to settle effectively in place, it is advisable to leave the treated area alone for up to 6 hours following treatment and sit upright. This will also limit the possibility of bruising or swelling spreading to other areas. Heavy lifting and exercise should also be avoided for the first 24 hours. Before wearing cosmetics or performing other skin treatments such as facials, massages, and exfoliating scrubs, you should wait at least 48 hours.
